It is not necessary to conduct formal recruitment for each temporary faculty position. Rather, all departments must have an ongoing general ad posted on the UT Faculty Recruitment Web for their non-tenured positions.
Departments’ internal processes for determining needs and recruiting temporary faculty vary, so those issues will not be addressed here. Each department must document its internal procedures by keeping a log of all applicants and retaining all applicant materials according to the UT Retention Schedule. This info will allow you to be able to answer the questions about applicants pool composition specified in the Applicant Pool Statistics Table. Departments must be prepared to furnish that documentation whenever requested by the dean or administration.
Approval to hire and fund temporary faculty starts with the soft money budget request, which is usually done in the late spring in conjunction with the budgeting process for the upcoming fiscal year.
