The Office of the Associate Dean for Research was established in Fall 2009 as the Office of Special Projects, with a mandate to study gender equity in the College of Liberal Arts. In our first year, we developed the guiding principle to understand campus life, in the context of our projects, on a continuum that begins with full professors and ends with graduate students. In all of our work, we remain cognizant of the culture that we project to our students as we train them and shape their expectations from academe.

In 2010, we became the Office of Research, and added to our portfolio faculty research support and graduate student affairs. These have become the centers of activity in our office. We welcome you to visit our pages about grants support for faculty and graduate students and our section on graduate student affairs.

Grants Support

The Office of Research offers comprehensive grants assistance to faculty and graduate students. Grant-seeking is an integral part of any academic career, and we strive to collaborate with faculty and students to navigate the often complex grant application process, create compelling proposals, and develop long-term funding plans.

Graduate Student Affairs

This section contains a range of information for graduate coordinators and graduate students in the College of Liberal Arts. We discuss new procedures for graduate student funding in 2012/2013 as well as our Teaching Fellows program. You will also find demographic information about students in COLA programs, and an overview of research about graduate student attrition, completion, and career paths of new PhDs.

Work Environment and Wellness

Our efforts to improve the work environment are part of a campus-wide response to the issues raised in the Report of the Gender Equity Task Force of 2008. Our mission is to identify inequities and address them with an eye toward shaping the College as a workplace that is dedicated to the well being of its faculty, staff, and students.
