Apple Macintosh Operating System
How does the subscription cost compare to just buying an upgrade or a MAC OS X license?
Academic license for Mac OS X
Currently priced at $69 including media. It may be used on exactly one computer and may not be transferred to another computer. The license is permanent. No subsequent upgrades are included in the pricing. When a new version or upgrade becomes available, you must buy again.
Upgrade licensing
Available from the Store. In quantities of 10 or more the pricing is less than that of buying the license and one media. For example, in quantities of 10, the upgrade costs $59 each plus media.
Apple AMP subscription
Priced at $22 per year per computer. Additional media costs apply (normally $15 for a DVD); however, one set of media may be used to install multiple machines subscribed under the program. For example, your department might buy 24 subscriptions and only one media. Future upgrades are included (media additional cost) during the subscription period. You must renew your subscription to continue using the software each year.
