16-Digit ISO Number on ID Cards

The 16-Digit ISO Number on the face of the ID card is considered a confidential identifier and Category-I data. This information is not to be revealed or shared by anyone for any reason.

See the Extended List of Category-I Data for more information.

ID Card Photo

The ID card photo, all information on the ID card, and the ID card itself are the property of The University of Texas at Austin. The photos are the property of the university and may not be used for any other purposes, such as your personal Web page. Reproduction and/or redistribution of the information on the ID card is expressly prohibited.

Where ID Card Information Comes From

For university employees, the information on the ID card comes from employee systems including the Human Resources Management System (HRMS) and Payroll.

For students, the information on the ID card comes from the Office of the Registrar. The name printed on the ID card will be the preferred name which we receive from either Payroll Services or the Office of the Registrar. If you are both a student and an employee, our system will use the name from whichever system was most recently updated.

For employees, the department printed on the ID card will be the primary department listed in HRMS. In general, departments with a higher percent assignment will take precedence. Only assignments at UT Austin will be recognized by the system.

All individuals whose primary role at the university is that of an employee will received the “Faculty/Staff” designation on their card. The staff education benefit does not entitle employees to a student ID card. Individuals considered primarily students by the Office of the Registrar will received the “Student” designation. University Affiliates will receive the “Univ Aff” designation and Official Visitors” will receive the “Visitor” designation.

Deactivated Cards

If you leave the university, report your ID card lost or stolen, or obtain a replacement card your old ID card will become deactivated.

If your card has become deactivated, and you are still eligible for an ID card, you must bring your ID card to the ID Center in order to have it reactivated. This is necessary to ensure that you are, in fact, in possession of your card and to ensure that the information on the card matches the information in our system.
