Unblocking Your Email Server

If you are sending mail to a university email address and a problem occurred with delivery, you will receive a delivery status notification that includes one of the following error messages:

If you are sending mail from Webmail and your message is flagged as spam by the ITS spam filters, you will receive an automated response with the tag [UTEXAS: SPAM DETECTED] prepended to the subject and a short explanation.

ITS employs many other techniques to combat unwanted email, including blacklisting known scammers and requiring authentication and encryption on all outgoing email messages.

Due to the dynamic and evolving nature of spam, the ITS filters are constantly adapting and changing. The above reasons are commonly why messages are blocked as spam; however, ITS considers many other factors that are taken into account as trends change.
