Sally Thorne, RN, PhD, is a Professor at the University of British Columbia School of Nursing where she has taught and conducted research for over 25 years, including serving a nine year term as Director, ending in 2010. A widely published author on such topics as the delivery of chronic illness and cancer care, nursing philosophy, and qualitative research methodology, she is Editor-in-Chief of the scholarly nursing journal Nursing Inquiry and Associate Editor for the journal Qualitative Health Research. Dr. Thorne also sits on several key research and strategic health boards, including the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer and The Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research. She plays an active role in numerous provincial and national nursing organizations and currently serves on the Boards of the Association of Registered Nurses of British Columbia and the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Science and the American Academy of Nursing.
