Biking

The Kickstand will re-open May 31st.

Bicycles are a popular transportation option around campus and Austin as a whole. Bicycling is a significant component of university's plan to reduce local traffic congestion and air pollution. Each year we continue to work on improving bicycling on campus.

Resources

Bike Auction

Once a year PTS auctions off abandoned, impounded, and donated bicycles that have gone unclaimed for over 60 days. The bike auction takes place at the beginning of the fall semester each year and all money goes back to the bike program. This is a great place to find a “fixer upper.”

U-Locks, Helmets, & Other Bike Gear

The Kickstand is the new university bike hub. Located on Speedway Plaza, it is your one-stop shop for all biking needs. Here, you can register your bike; buy helmets, locks, handpumps, lights, tubes, patch kits, bike lube, water bottles, or other biking supplies; rent locks; use air pumps or other tools; and pick up maps and brochures. Biking supplies are also sold in the PTS main office, located on the ground floor of Trinity Garage (TRG). Additionally, the store on the lower level of Gregory Gym sells U-locks and some cable locks to accompany them. Never use just a cable lock. University Health Services offers low-cost helmets that can be purchased at their pharmacy located in the Student Services Building.

Report Theft

If your bike is missing, first call PTS to make sure it hasn’t been impounded. If it has been stolen, PTS will give you your serial number to report to UTPD at 471-4441, if stolen on campus, or to APD at 311, if stolen off campus.

Cycling Club

The University of Texas Cycling Team promotes interest in cycling and racing among the UT student body. The team competes in road, mountain, and track competitions, but welcomes recreational riders as well.

The Orange Bike Project

The Orange Bike Project is a subcommittee of the Campus Environmental Center at the university that provides students with more sustainable choices for transportation. They have volunteers, enthusiasm, and access to used bikes, tools, and a space in which to work. Through their program, students are able to “check out” a bike just as if they were checking out a library book and keep the bike for the entire semester. This allows many students to make their bike their primary mode of transportation.
