Research at the College of Pharmacy is among the highest quality in the nation. With funding from the National Institutes of Health, pharmaceutical companies, and private foundations in excess of $10 million, basic science and clinical research is underway on broad-ranging topics including drug addiction, cancer, infectious disease, pharmacy policy, mental health, pharmaceutical development, and reproductive aging. More than 40 research faculty utilize the funding to provide outstanding training and guidance to more than 130 graduate and postdoctoral students. In 2007, research results were reported in over 250 peer-reviewed publications around the world.
The research mission of the College of Pharmacy involves novel investigations in the general areas of pharmacology/toxicology, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacotherapy, and health outcomes and pharmacy practice.
Research space is located on the UT campus in the two-building pharmacy complex, in the Biomedical Engineering Building and in the Animal Resources Center. In San Antonio, basic laboratory and clinical research space is available in the McDermott Building on the campus of the University of Texas Health Science Center, and at affiliated institutions. Additional facilities for collaborative research are available in the College of Natural Sciences, the College of Engineering, the Institute for Neurosciences, and the Institute for Cellular and Molecular Biology.
