Freshman Reading Round-Up

Welcome to an event that gives incoming first-year students a head start on exploring what the University of Texas is all about: a place where ideas abound, inquiry is encouraged, and discoveries—both large and small—happen every day.

Members of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers and other outstanding faculty recommend stimulating books for summer reading and schedule times to discuss the books with intimate groups of incoming first-year students the day before fall classes start. Join them for casual but lively conversation about the books they propose.

It’s simple to participate. Just browse through the list of books and descriptions, sign up online for the one you want, purchase or borrow the book, and read it before school starts. We’re going to keep thew discussion groups small, so if your first choice is already full, look for another book that appeals to you. There are plenty to choose from.

Experience a Reading Round-Up session: Professor David Laude leads a discussion on Paul Roberts’s The End of Oil.
